"New Yorker"誌1959年8月21日号（"LIFE"誌は8月3日号）から始まり１６年間つづいたＶＷオールド・ビートルのシリーズは、いまなお、世界中の広告クリエイターの随喜の涙ものの文献となっています。
キャンペーンの丹念な跡づけは↓の『ニューヨーカー･アーカイブ』によって行なったが、"LIFE"誌他からも拾ってみました。

少々コンバーチブル。
普通のコンバーチプル･カーには、それをコンバートしないと乗れない人々も
います。(｢父さん、トップを降ろしてよ｣｢ハリー、そのまま上げておいてよ｣)
妥協はできません。(普通のコンバーチブルのトップを半分だけ上げてドライ
ブしたらいかが？) でもそういう車があるのです。
フォルクスワーゲン･サンルーフ･セダンです.
サンルーフはＶＷセダンとＶＷコンバーチブルの混血です、ルーラの上には穴
があいていてそれにはスチール･カバーがついていてそれが開いて、390平方イ
ンチの空が拝めるというわけ。
それとも389.5平方インチの空、それとも1/4平方インチ、それと気持ちがいい
だけ。
そして、全然開けないほうが乗り心地がよいというならそれもできます。
ただ、カバーをシーリング･ガスケットに入れるまで、クランクで回して閉じ
てしまえばいいのです。
これで、私たちのサンルーフはセダンと同じように気密、かつ防水となります。
カバーはルーフと同じようにパッドつきで、裏打ちがしてあるのでほとんど目
立ちません。
そのために９０ドル余分に払ったということも、他の人にわからないかもしれ
ません。 (でもＶＷサンルーフを割り出してみれば、開いてみればわかります
けど。)

Some people can't ride in a regular convertible without trying convert
it. ("Put fhe top down dady." "Leave it up, Harry.")
You con't make a compromise. (Try driving a 'regular convertible with
the top only halfway up.) But you can buy one:
The Volkswagen Sunroof Sedan.
The Sunroof is a cross between a ＶＷ Sedan and a ＶＷ Convertoble. It
has a hole in the roof, with a steel cover that crank open to give you
390 square inches of sky.
Or 3891/2 square inches of sky. Or 1/4 square inches. Or whatever's com-
fortable.
And if no opening's comfortable, you can have that, too: Just crank
the cover closed until it pops up against its sealing gasket.
This makes our Sunroof as airtight and watertight as our Sedan.
The cover is padded and lined like the rest of the roof, so you can
hardly see it.
Some peop1e can hardly see paying an extra $90 for it, either.(Untill
they take a ＶＷ Sunroof out on the road. And open her up.)
