なぜ、このステーション･ワゴンはバスに似ているのでしょう?
ＶＷワゴンは、輸送用につくられています。あなたはそこに、１インチのムダも見つけられないでしょう。
エンジンが後部にあるので、鼻がありません。これが、すばらしい牽引力のヒミツです。
在来のステーショソ･ワゴンより全長が４フィート短くなっています。このため、運転も駐車もしやすくなっています。
在来のワゴソより背が高く、箱のような形をしています。このことが、在来のワゴンの中でいちばん大きいものよりも収容力を大きくしているのです。
荷物はサイドから入れられるようになっています。ここが荷台にいちばん近い距離だからです。
運転席は高くなっています。こうすると、坂道やカープのとき、すごく視界が広くなるからです。
そのデザインは、とても合理的に考慮されています。一つの傾向にさえなりつつあります。最近、同業2社が｢フォルクスワー
ゲン･タイプのステーショソ･ワゴン｣と題する冊子を発行したことに対し、フォルクスワ
ーゲンは、心からありがたく思っています。
しかし、なぜ彼らがサン･ルーフをとり入れなかったのか、不思議です。
これは、乗客に太陽の暖かさを与えるだけでなく、送風機の役目もします。さらに、たとえば８フィートのタＹスとか、旗竿のように背の高いものを運ぶのに役立ちます。屋根をつき抜けて立つからです。
これが、ＶＷワゴンの愉快なところなんですが、初めは｢バスみたいだ」といっていた人も、たいてい、おしまいには｢バス｣と呼ぶのです。

Why does this station wagon look like a bus?
The VW wagon is built for transportation. You will not find a wasted inch in it.
It has no nose because the engine is in the rear, which gives it better traction.
It is four feet shorter than the conventional station wagon, which makes it more maneuverable and easer to park.
It is taller than the conventional wagon and shaped like a box. This lets it hold more than the biggest conventional wagon.
It loads from the side because this is the shortest distance to the carrying area.
Its driving seat is roised because this gives ecormous visibilityon hill and curves.
Its ddesign is considered so sound, it has started a trend. Volkswagen feels sincerely comlimented that two neighbors in the auto business recently brought out what the popers call "Volkswagen-type station wagon."
But why they did not decide to adopt its sun-roof is a mystery.
Thus not only lets sun worm the passengers and breezes fan them. It also allows room tocarry tall things like on 8 ft. wardrobe or flag-pole. They stand up through the roof.
It's a funny thing about the VW Wagon. most people who start out saying it looks like a bus, end up calling it a bus.
