An Interview with Mr. Charles Moss (1)

Wells Rich Greene Inc.
Vice President and Creative Director(at the time)

chuukyuu We have heard that you were one time with Doyle Dane Bernbach. When and how long were you with DDB? What accounts did. you write forthere?

Mr. Moss Yes, I was with DDB, my first job. I was there approximately three years. In the beginning I worked mainly on trade accounts. Some of my accounts induded Venus Pens & Pencils Company, Ronson Lighter Company, Chemstrand. I worked on the Democratic National Committee in 1964.

chuukyuu Was DDB the first agency for you to be with? Is it true that Mr. Bob Levenson invited you to join the agency? What copywriting lesson did Mr. Levenson give you? Why did you come to learn copywriting? When, why and how did you come to judge that you were fit for copywriting?

Mr. Moss DDB was the first agency I was with. I got my first job through Bob Levenson who was teaching a course at New York University. It was a copy course that he taught at night once a week. While I was looking for a job somebody at Doyle Dane told me that he was teaching this course and I went down and sat in on it, and that's how I came to know him and he came to know mc, and subsequently he did invite me to come over there.
I was always interested in acting as a career, but it's a risky business in terms of making a living and so I decided to look around for something else that would provide some self-expression and I decide advertising would be the thing. That's how I decided to start looking for a job as a copywriter.
