久しぶりの［息抜きタイム］です。
DDBのVWチームは、かぶと虫の生産工程での入念な検査ぶりを、検査員の数や検査ヶ所の数で表現しています。
検査員の数---2007.06.23掲示（左端）「こんなにたくさんの人がフォルクワーゲンを検査しているんですよ」では、1,104人。
2007.06.21掲示（中央）の「どの新車も、少し使われて出てきます」では、8,397人。
2007.06.19掲示（右端）の「フォルクスワーゲンの検査は、こんなに何回も行われます」では、5,857人。
キャンペーンが始まった1959年には、3,000人といっていました。
人数の変化が変ですね。検査を機械化していると考えるべきなんでしょうか。
ま、この疑問は別の機会に解くとして、今回は1人の目による検分。
フォルクスワーゲンの非凡さは、尋常な見方ではわかりません。
フォルクスワーゲンのフェンダーの下を見てください。まさかと思うようなものが見えるでしょう。塗料。
VWにはすべて約6kgもの塗料が使ってあります。思いもよらない個所にも(もし何もする事がないような時があったら内側のドアパネルをはがして、下に何があるか見てください)。
フォルクスワーゲンのシャーシーの下には、世界でも指折り数えるくらいの車にしかないものがあます---鋼鉄製の密閉底---これが路上にあるあらゆる障碍物から車の内部の大事な部分を守る役目を果たしているのです(あなたの車の下を見てください。内部にあるものがいかに露出していて、傷つきやすいかおわかりになるはずです)。
写真を見ると、4コの車輪が突き出ているのがわかりますね？ このうちひとつを押すと、他の車輪は微動だにせず、押した車輪だけが動きます。ということは、車を正常な状態にもどした時、ひとつの車輪が障害物にぶつかっても、他の車輪はビクともしないわけです。
さて、以上のような高級車並みの長所が(他にもまだまだあります)。経済車の価格で手に入ることを考えてみてください---燃費も経済車並み---世界でもっとも進んだ保証付き(オーナーズ総括保証) ---そして信じられないほどの再販価格(1972年型VWは新車時とほとんど変わらぬ下取り価格です)。
逆立ちしてみても、これ以上のお買い得な車は見つかりっこありません。
Some of the most unusual things about a Volkswagen

You couldn't find a belter buy if you stood on your head.
