オーバックス新聞広告シリーズ（３３）
ぽくは、少年時代、宮崎 博史さんと佐々木 邦さんの
ユーモア小説を愛読したものだ。そう、学校を休んで
でも読みたかった。
そのうち、弱電メーカーに勤め、宮崎さんに松島とも
子ちゃんがヒロインのラジオ・ドラマを書いていただ
いた。
あるとき、宮崎さんが三越の宣伝部でコピーライター
時代のことを話してくださった。夕刊がくると、その
記事の中から広告のアイデアを１０ヶ出すまでは帰し
てもらえなかったと。
戦前、名門三越の宣伝部員はそうやって鍛えられてい
たんだ。当ブログにアクセスするくらいの手間がなん
だとおもう。４年半１日も休まずにつづけてきた刻苦
に比すれば……しかし、その刻苦も宮崎 博史さんの
お名前といっしょで、業界では誰も語らなくなろう。

ショーツの生地は一層ではなく、丈夫で光沢のある糸を使って二層になっています。
ナイロンゼファーのチャックは大抵７つか８つですが、オーバックスでは９つあるため履きやすくなっています。タートルネックの部分は全部伸ばすと３回と半分折り返すことができます。これだけあれば、どんなに首の長い方でも安心です。首の部分は表裏両面仕上げであるため、伸ばしても捲いてもきれいな仕上がりです。

デニムは丈夫な布地で重さは約２８０グラム、うねは４つのベッドフォードコードです。ショーツは一針で縫うのではなく、二針で縫うことで丈夫にしています。
ポケットには安っぽいレーヨンでなく丈夫な厚めのキャンバス地を使用。

裾はただ折り返されているのではなく、ご覧のとおりきれいに折り返されています。
内側には粋なチャックがあります。結合部には二度縫いという西洋の縫い方を用い
ているため、内側も外側も素敵かつ丈夫な仕上がりです。おしり側の２つのポケット
も角をしっかりと留めてあります。

Shell sewn not with single.ply but with stronger 2-ply twist mercerized thread. Easier to slip on: nylon Zephyr zipper is 9" instead of usual 7" or 8". Full (not just mock) turtle; 3 1/2" foldover is deep enough to cover neck seam. Neck is double-faced; inner facing tacked down to avoid rolling, stitched to zipper for finer finish.

Fabric: choice of 10-oz. denim or 4-rib Bedford cord in sturdy 10·oz. weight. Shorts sewn throughout not with single.. but with sturdier double- needle construction. Side pockets lined with extra heavy canvas, not just inexpensive rayon; riveted top and bottom for extra strength.

Cuffs not just folded but stitched for neater, crisper turn-up. Hidden fly zipper. Western-style stitching: double rows of matching thread at join points: neater, stronger finish inside and out. Two back pockets bar-tacked at corners.

男性用のシャツも仕立てています。基本は二度縫いです。（一度縫いは滅多にありま
せん）１インチに１８針と、繊細な作業がなされます。完璧な格子模様で、洒落た配
色。スムーズに通せるボタン穴。丈夫なコットン地で縮みに強く色あせない、洗濯機
で洗っても問題なし。

ただのコットン地ではなく、何度も洗えるベッドフォードコード。正面のポケットは、
端を折り返す代わりに自分でつけ外し可能です。ゴム加工されたベルトは丸くなるこ
とはありません。ナイロンジッパーに金属のホックと留め金、丈夫なガーターベルト
もあります。脚部のポケットはただの飾りではなく、スーツのような蓋付きのポケッ
トです。

正面や後ろだけでなく、横も丁寧に縫われています。平らにするためにプレスされる
ので、滑らかな仕上がりです。正面の折り目は、フランス風（返し縫い）であるため
実際は折り目ではなく縫い目なのです。裾は切込みが入っており、広がるようになっ
ています。丈夫な作りですのでそうそう破けません。

True man-tailoring by men's shirt maker. Two rows of stitching throughout
(not usual one); 18 fine stitches to the inch. Plaids perfectly matched.
Collar banded for closer fit. Buttonholes stitched closely through facing
and interfacing. Fine cotton, pre-shrunk, color-fast, machine-washable.

Not ordinary cotton but imported wash-and-wear Bedford cord. Front placket
: separate taped self-facings instead of usual turn-back edges. Rubberized
waistband won't curl. Nylon zipper, metal hook-and-eye, heavy-duty elastic
belt. Leg pocket: not just patch, but man-tailored hacking pocket.

Seams front, back only; no bulky side seams. Not left raw, but merrowed, open-
pressed for flat, smooth finish. Front seams: French (reversestitched), so
leg press is actually sewn in. Crotch seam fully taped; separale broadcloth
crotch lining. Heavy-duty snaps al hems to tighten ankles.
