"New Yorker"誌1959年8月日（”LIFE"誌は8月3日）から始まり１６年間つづいたＶＷビートルのシリーズは、いまなお、世界中の広告クリエイターの手本となっています。
キャンペーンの丹念な跡づけは↓の『ニューヨーカー･アーカイブ』によって行なったが、"LIFE"誌他からも拾ってみました。

あの、空高く舞っているエンジンの音は、はるか下、地上を走る私たちの小さな車の後部に搭載しているのと同じエンジンの音です。
これは、ニューヨーク州ディヤ・パークのボブ・ラッドさんのものです。そしてボブは、空を飛ぶには、たった一つの方法しかないという考えに夢中になっている人びとの仲間です。
フォルクスワーゲンで飛ぶのです。
いいじゃないですか。
フォルクスワーゲンのエンジンは頼りになりますよ（これまで決して地上を離れない１，０００万台以上の車の動力になってきました）。
軽量です（高度３，３００ｍで使うにはもってこいです）。
空冷式です（水の心配も不凍液の心配もなしです）。
とりわけ最重要事項---ガソリンをガブ飲みしません（空飛ぶＶＷの平均km/?は17〜19kmです）。
英誌『セイファー・モータリング』は、フォルクスワーゲン・エンジンの飛行機のことを「今日最も安上がりの飛行機」と評価しています。
私たちは、空の高いところでも大活躍しているというのを耳にして、ワクワクしています。
とはいえ、ワーゲンで空を飛ぶことは推薦しかねています（ありようは、反対なんですよ）。
第一、もし私たちがフォルクスワーゲンを飛ぶためにつくるのだったら、鳥そっくりの外形にしていたでしょうからね。

That little plane up high in the sky is run by the same engine that runs our little car back down on the ground.
It belongs to Bob Ladd of Deer Park, N.Y.And Bob belongs to a growing number of enthusiasts who happen to think there's only one way to fly. Via Volkswagen.
And why not?
A Volkswagen engine is dependable.(It's been dependable in over 10 million vehicles that never got off the ground.)
It's lightweight. (A nice feature to have at 10,000 feet.)
It's air-cooled. (No water or antifreeze to worry about.)
And most important of all, it doesn't drink much gas. (40 or 45 mpg seems to be what most flying VWs average.)
Safer Motoring Magazine calls a VW powered aircraft from Ｕ.Ｋ. "the most economical plane in the world today."
On one hand, we're thrilled to hear we're doing so well up high in the sky.
On the other, we don't recommend it. (In fact, we're against it.)
After all, if we had really meant the Volkswagen to fly, we would have made it look more like a bird.
