アメリカン航空の整備士は休日には何をしているでしょう？
週に５日、ダビッド･ウォ一レンはタルサにあるアメリカン航空の整備基地で
アストロジェットの分解検査係として働いています。
しかし休日には、仕事からすっかり解放されて――とはいっても、また飛行機
と取り組むのです。写真の旧式のエアロンカＣ−３に。
デイブはこれを自分独りで組み立てなおしました。
この飛行機で飛ぶことができる――と自分の腕には自信満々です。
クラシック飛行機同好会々員になっているアメリカン航空のメカニカルたちの
中の一人です。
ほかにホームビルト同好会（自分で飛行機を作って飛ばす）で活躍している者
もいます。彼らは自分たちで飛行機をデザインし、組み立て、それに乗って飛
ぶのです。
わが社ではたくさんの整備士がパイロットの免許をもっています。休日に私設
飛行場へ行けば彼らにお会いになれます。
私どもの整備士たちはお金のためだけで仕事をしているのではありません。
自分の仕事を愛しているのです。それはその仕事ぶりを見ていただけばおわか
りになります。

What do American Airlines' mechanics do in their spare time?
Five days ａ week. David Warren works on Astroiets at the
American Airlines at the maintenance base in Tulsa.
But on his days off, Dave gets away from it all by working
on―of all things―still another plane: the antique Aeronca
Ｃ-3 in the picture.
He restored it himself and has enough confidence in his
work to fly it himself.
Dave is one of a number of our mechanics who belong to the
Antique Airplane Association. Others are active in the Ex-
perimental Aircraft Association, designing and building their
own planes. and then going up in them.
Quite ａ number of our mechanics are licensed pilots, and the
likeliest place to find them on their days off is out at (or
over）the local flying field.
Men like these aren't in the business just for the money.
They love their work and their work shows it.
