いまのこの時間、chuukyuu がうがいしているのは、南アルプスの氷塊に土佐のぽんかんシャーベットを溶かしたのを北アルプスの自然冷水で割った豪華な水です。
喉頭がん末期でこの６ヶ月間、1滴の水も酒も食物も喉をとおらなくなっているため、せめて、口中の味覚だけでもと、この1週間前から風味を山形のさくらんぼう味、吉兆の桃味、千疋屋のラズベリー味と深夜に創る風味にこだわっているわけ。豪華な風味は到来もの。
けっきょく、長年親しんだ自分で刻んだレモン味か麦茶味に戻るだけのことのようですが。
人生って----こんなことなんでしょうね。
ポート･ロイヤルって、スペイン時代の搾取の湊町だったってこと。
1692年に、邪悪な都市ポート･ロイヤルは海に捨てられました。
(彼女が犯した罪の報いでした)
爾来、私たちは社会生活から野蛮さを減らすようにしてきました。
(私たちはなんでも運任せでやってみるわけではありませんからね)
1692年6月7日、酔っ払いたちがどんちゃん騒ぎしている最中に、まさに突然、ポート･ロイヤルは海底へと消えてしまいました。「黄泉の冥界」へと。
略奪品、売春婦、船、倉庫や記録もすべて――
その後、地震も３回やってきました（爾来、牧師たちはこの都市に由々しき事態がくると予言していました。）
これ以上都市を失うわけにはいきません。ですからジャマイカに旅行の際はどうぞお気楽にいらして下さい。
ケイマナス競馬場で闇雲な賭博をしたり、スカのダンスホールで暁暗の４時まで狂ったように踊り続けたり、オリエントの波止場で絹製品の値切りに夢中になったり、酒屋で151度のジャマイカ･ラムを浴びるように飲むなど、はめをはずし過ぎるのはご法度です。もちろん、楽しむことも大事です。キングストンにあるジャマイカ学院では博物館のようにポート･ロイヤルの残骸を展示してあります。数百の遺物の中には、黄金の時計の記録なども含まれています。展示品の中には魚の胃の中から見つかったものもあります（これぞ虎の子）。
博物館を満喫した後は、ジャマイカ観光には欠かせないスポットが残っているので、そちらに移りましょう。
例えば、劇場。ジャマイカにはギルバート・サリバンなみの素晴らしい劇団がいくつもあります。毎年恒例のジャマイカン･パントマイム劇は愉快ですよ。
アウトドア派の方には登山がお勧めです。滝を見に行くのも、つんと甘く薫る甘蔗刈りに行くのもいいでしょう。

In 1692, the wicked city of Port Royal was cast into the sea.
("As retribution for her sins.")
Since then, we've kept our social life a little less wild. (We're not taking any chances.)
In the midst of a bacchanalian revel on June 7, 1692, the "golden Hades" known as Port Royal disappeared quite suddenly into the sea. With all its pirate booty, bawds, ships, storehouses and wrinen records.
Three tremors. And it was gone. (Those reverend ministers who had predicted no good for the city smiled, knowingly.)
We can't afford to lose any more cities. So please, when you come to Jamaica, take it easy. Don't spend all your time in wild abandon --- gambling recklessly at Caymanas racetrack, dancing the frantic Ska till 4 o'clock in the morning, bargaining feverishly for the sinuous silks of the Orient along the quays, drinking the fierce 151 proof Jamaican rum in the wine shops. Spend some of your time doing uplifting things, too. Like visiting our museum. At the Jamaican Institute in Kingston you can see pieces of Port Royal: a few hundred artifacts, including the golden watch photographed above. Also on display is a packet of ship's papers found in the belly of a fish. (Mon, that's culture.)
When you run out of museum, there are a few other things you can do in Jamaica without getting us all tossed into the sea again. Theatre, for example. There are some marvelous little theatre groups, and a Gilbert and SulliVan company. Plus an annual Jamaican pantomime.
If you like your uplifting activities to be outdoors, you can climb a mountain. Or a waterfall. Or breathe the pungently sweet scent of a field of freshly cut sugar cane. Or listen to the chirps, cheeps, whistles and pipings of a Jamaican jungle night. (This kind of diversion may not be as much fun as the things vacationing pirates used to do here. But It's a lot safer.)
