毎日、遅滞なく、［６分間の道草］シリーズだけでも１０１１回、なんの苦労もなくアップしているようにおもわれているであろうが、舞台裏はヒヤヒヤの綱渡りもので、いつ、挫折してもおかしくないのである。基本的には一人作業。個人が所蔵しているものを開陳して後世に伝えようとしているにすぎない。
幸い、atsushiさんという協力者とhiroysatoさんというＩＴのプロが陰で支えてくださってきた。
それが、ここへきてのchuukyuuの業病の発覚、翻訳が不能になった時、fuku33さんと東海大学の学生・佐藤 汰さんのボランティアが得られた。
が、この綱渡り、いつまでつづけられるか。明日辞めてもおかしくない舞台裏に変わりはない。
atsushiさんとhiroysatoさんの工夫とご努力で、ポーラ･グリーンさん（エイビス･レンタカーのコピーライター）とコンタクトがとれた。

forwarding Nishio-San's congratulations to me.
Yes, I remember him very well and have long appreciated
his wonderful interviews and his enthusiasm for DDB
and especially his respect for the copywriters.
Please tell him thank-you for all those memorable
times we shared.
And please convey my distress over his health
along with my good thoughts for him.
I would be happy indeed to be interviewed again by him:
it would be very interesting to see how our ideas exist
in today's world, to see if we have changed along the way.

オリン社のスッキリ蘇生シリーズ(２６)
西部を拓（ひら）いた銃
アメリカ史ページの後に記載されている、ウィンチェスターの名高い連発銃をぜひご覧ください。今日のウィンチェスターでは火力、射撃スピード、遠距離射撃、耐久性、命中精度などの性能向上に成功しました。おじいちゃんに教えてあげましょう
来る日も来る日も、人は獲物を求めて狩りをしていました。
たとえ獲物が少なくても、食には困りません。
１発でも命中すれば仕留めることができるからです。
１発目が当たらなくても、２発、３発、４発と当たるまで撃てばいいのです。
バッファロー･ビルが生きていたころ、彼はウィンチェスター73を使って仕留めたバッファローを東西鉄道会社で働く人たちに提供しており、このころにビルとカスターが歴史的な出会いを果たしました。
カスターはウィンチェスター66（現在のスミソニアン）を愛用していました。
セオドア･ルーズヴェルト大統領の時代に、２大陸合同で開催された狩猟大会でカスターは自分の使用したウィンチェスターが今まで使ってきたライフルのなかで一番よかった、と言いきりました。
その時から、「ウィンチェスターズ」が人びとの耳目に入るようになってきました。
今日でもオリンのウィンチェスター西部事業部の鉄砲職人たちはこの時から変わらない種類のライフルを作り続けています。
ここ１００年で唯一変わったこととしては火力性能向上の特許をとったくらいです。
モデル70には７つの型があり１１種類の口径に対応しています。
重量が３kgほどで、約5km離れた地点からミールジカを仕留めることができ、重い弾を使えば、元気のよい象でも仕留めることが可能です。
モデル88は一撃一撃の間隔を短くすることに重点を置き、より早く獲物を多く仕留めることを可能にしました。
モデル100代のライフルは撃った時の反動を抑え、拳銃式グリップを細めて握りやすくしたことで、世界で最も安定感のあるライフルとなりました。
これらのライフルが意味することは、もはやバッファロー･ビルのような凄腕ハンターはいなくてもよいということです。
彼の要望が詰まっているウィンチェスターという産物があるのですから。

The gun that won the West.
Meet the Grandaddy of them all, the famous Winchester repeater that wrote page after page of American history. With firepower. Today, Winchesters fire faster, further, harder and more accurately. But it was this old geezer that taught 'em everything they know.
Day in, day out, this was the gun that helped a man hold his ground when the odds were a dozen to one against him. And when game was scarce, this was the gun that kept a man and his family alive.
Whatever it hit, went down. If a man missed, it gave him that priceless second chance, a second shot. And a third. And a fourth.
These were the days when Buffalo Bill, squinting along the sights of a Winchester 73, provided daily buffalo steak dinners for thousands of laborers working on the East-West railroad; the days when Sitting Bull left the reservation for his historical encounter with Custer, leaving behind everything but his Winchester 66 (now at the Smithsonian) ; the days when Theodore Roosevelt, hunting the biggest game on two continents, proclaimed his Winchester the best rifle he ever owned.
These were the days when men began to speak of rifles as "Winchesters."
Today, gunsmiths at WinChester-Western, a Division of Olin, are still making the same kind of rifle. The only differences are a 100 years of patented improvements in firepower.
Some specifics:
Model 70 comes in seven styles and eleven calibers: The featherweights, weighing only 6 3/4 pounds, will stop a mule deer at a third of a mile while heavier calibers will drop a charging rogue elephant right in its tracks. The unique short-stroke lever on Model 88 helps a hunter get on target faster and stay on target between shots, because his finger never leaves the trigger.
Model 100's gentle recoil makes it the world's fastest hunting rifle, while its slimmed pistol grip stock makes it just about the most comfortable as well.
All of which means that a man no longer needs to be born a Buffalo Bill to be a man among hunters.
All he needs is a real son of a gun. A Winchester.
