Hostellerie Guillaume 1e Conquerant in Dives-sur-Mer.
この inn はまさしくフランスのお伽ばなしから脱けだしています。 高い門口は古く、装飾をこらした噴水と珍妙な像がある中へ通じています。11世紀にこの地を占領したウィリアム征服王の彫刻が見下ろす食事室では暖炉が赤々と燃えています。食後のカルヴァドスをちびちび傾けおわったら寝室へ。夕・朝食ともで８ドルぽっきり。
Hotel de la Couronne in Rouen.
フランス最古の inn で、14世紀の建築物の美しい例です。壁には支柱が斜交いに埋められています。窓は昔風に全開です。調理室はとびきり見ものです。宿泊客室がない代わりに、ルーアン風の子アヒルのパテで印象的な夜を記憶に刻むことになるでしょう。暖炉のそばで摂るのは、この地方特産のヒレでも、チーズでもいいですよ。お値段は２ドル。
Auberge Saint-Madou in Rouen.
ルーアンのレンガ通りのしも手---アーチスト区画と呼ばれている一隅に、ひっそりと建っているこの宿屋があります。小じんまりしてて、質素で、安価なところが、フランスでの掘り出し物の一つといわれるゆえんです。
１階は昔風のレンガで基礎づくりされています。時代を感じさせる石垣、年代ものの骨董品、透明だけど黄緑色のゴブレット、花柄絵付けのノルマンディ陶皿の数々が、値踏みしそうになる目を引きつけて離しません。
料理にはバターを塗ることをお忘れなく。１ドル５０セントの夕食は、これでいいの？---と勘定書の数字を見直すほどおいしかった。客室は２ドル５０セントだけど、文句をつけるところがないほどに、こんにち風に諸設備が完備しているんです。
Auberge du Vieux-Puits in Pont-Audemer.
フランスの中でもとりわけプロヴァンスを熱愛していらっしゃる方々とっては、Pont-Audemerはもう楽園でしょうね。この旅籠は１０年ほど前になめし工房から衣替えしました。ここには全土からさまざまなカラフルな骨董品が蒐集されているんです。え？ メニューですか？ あなたが目を釘づけになさるのは、ピューター（しろめ すずと鉛の合金）器と真鍮鍋でしょうか。この食事室に入ってしまうと、シャワーつきの客室料４ドルを、なしの３ドル半に切りつめてもメニューのほうにまわそうとなさるでしょうよ。

Hostellerie Guillaume 1e Conquerant in Dives-sur-Mer.
This inn is right out of a French fable. Its towering gateway opens to a courtyard crowded with old, ornate fountains and amusing statues. You'll dine, as William the Conqueror did, in an 11th Century banquet hall, its roof heavy with carving, its roaring fires Grusting an appled pig. Sip the night away on friendly Calvados, or slip off to a fabulous room once slept in by the elder Dumas. And such a room, breakfast and dinner will cost only $8-complete.
Hotel de la Couronne in Rouen.The oldest inn in France, this is a beautiful example of 14th Century architecture. Its walls are cris-crossed with smoky timber. Its windows open to Joan of Arc's tragic square. And its kitchen is superb. There are no rooms at the inn but you can spend a memorable evening over the delicate Pate de Canetofl de Rouen, the local fillet of Saint Pierre smothered in Norman Hollandaise, followed by the Coquellet from the friendly fireplace and finally, a great cheese. Price: just $2, price-fixed.
Auberge Saint-Madou in Rouen. Deep in the artists' quarter of Rouen, down an old brick street, you'll find this auberge. Tiny, simple, inexpensive, it's one of the finds in France. The first floor is terraced in ancient red tile. Old stone walls, primitive antiques, apple green goblets and a riot of flowered Norman pottery will put you in the mood for the good, rich; cream-and-butter cooking. You can have a delicious dinner here for $1.50, price-fixed. And a simple but immaculate room with modern conveniences for $2.25.
Auberge du Vieux-Puits in Pont-Audemer. If you're mad for French Provincial collector's items, Heaven waitsin Pont-Audemer. This auberge was converted from a tannery into an inn decades ago.
It has all its original charm and one of France's most colorful antique collections. Exciting as the menu is, it's hard tokeep your eyes off the pewter and brass. But you'll enjoy great Norman cooking here for $3.50 it la carte, and a fine room with a. shower for just $4.
